Ski
This being the year of our 30th Wedding Anniversary, we decided to attempt some bucket list activities. We survived a snowmobile ride in Yellowstone National Park last month, and this month it was a skiing excursion. Not to Yellowstone, but to a much closer location to home at Kelly Canyon Ski Area. Kelly Canyon is a local Idaho Falls family ski area. It is located about 25 miles outside of Idaho Falls and about the same distance from our home. It has been there a long time, in fact our next door neighbor worked there as a teenager and he is my age... almost 😁
We have not had a huge snow year this winter.... so far, but we did receive 5-10 inches of snow just 2 or 3 days prior to deciding to head out to Kelly Canyon. That turned out to be a good plan, the snow was outstanding! Kelly Canyon is situated at about 6,500 ft elevation, which is about 1,000 ft higher than our homesite. During the winter it is not uncommon to have snow cloud bottoms well below 6,000 ft. This ski day was no exception. One interesting thing about Kelly Canyon is that their ski day is from noon to 4 PM. Considering the price of lift tickets now, we kind of wondered if it would be worth it. It turned out 4 hours was more than enough time, as we were exhausted and I had to take a 30 minute break in the middle! I certainly don't have the legs that I used to. All in all, the shorter day worked out very well.
When we arrived at the ski area the snow cloud was still hanging low, but the sun seemed to be trying to come out. Below is a view from the top on one of our very first runs.... lots of clouds.
Here comes the sun!
Carol & Steve unload from the 2-seat chair lift. When is the last time you've seen a 2-seater?!Sure we're smiling now, but that is just before we went down the Black Diamond, Whoa Joe!Carol & Gari Style at the top.Carol & Gari ride up the 2-seater lift.Steve up ahead on the lift. When getting the picture above, I dropped a mitten, and it can bee seen directly under the girls in the shot above. We immediately skiied down underneath the lift and retrieved the mitten without further incident.

More skiing action; Gari & Carol shredding this one!
